This interactive panel discussion will give you a glimpse into the way event prices are set and learn what goes into pricing for food, beverage, rooms, AV and decor for events and meetings. Our distinguished panel of industry professionals include Jim Engelmann, AVI-SPL, Kristin Thompson, Renaissance World Golf Village Resort and Beach Club and Joe Sampson, Sight & Sound Productions & Mugwump Productions.
Jim Engelmann is the Director of Sales and Production for the Creative Show Services (CS2) Division of AVI-SPL. In this position, Jim oversees all aspects of sales, customer service and creative development for meetings and events for AVI-SPL’s clients nationwide. Jim works directly with CS2’s Producers, Directors and Technical professionals to identify opportunities to increase client offerings, and work with clients to help them achieve their goals. Focusing on emerging trends and how the clients’ communications needs have changed, the CS2 team constantly strives to stay ahead of the curve, identifying needs that cross platforms and technology boundaries.
While managing projects for a Chicagoland marketing communications agency, Jim transitioned from traditional print media to all areas of interactive development. In 1997 Jim was at the forefront of Web development, overseeing the first websites for companies such as Amoco Oil, Komatsu America and NEC technologies. During this time interactive CD-Rom content began to replace slides, and the meeting environment was transitioning to the moving, on-the-fly information exchange that we see today.
In 2001, Jim left Chicago for the warmer weather of Florida, and joined the AVI-SPL team. With a 17 year marketing background, Jim’s ability to readily identify new trends and develop services to maximize client offerings have helped increase AVI-SPL’s capabilities over his 10 year tenure with the organization.
Kristin Thompson, CMP CMM is the Director of Catering and Destination Services at the Renaissance World Golf Village Resort and Beach Club. She is responsible for overseeing catering sales, event planning and destination services at the AAA Four-Diamond Northeast Florida resort.
Prior to this, she served for seven years at Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra Beach, where she was the founding manager of the resort's Destination Management Department, Destinations by Marriott. During her tenure at the resort she also served as Event Manager. Previous positions include serving as Senior Meeting Planner at Allied Domecq/Dunkin Donuts for six years, and as Meeting Manager at Quinwell Travel/QTW Meetings for five years.
Joe Sampson is Vice President of Marketing for the Sight & Sound Productions family of companies and General Manager for Mugwump Productions. he joined the Sight & Sound team in 2009.
Joe is responsible for overseeing the day to day and long term marketing efforts for the Sight & Sound Productions family of companies. He also works toward developing new business and maintaining valuable relationships with area hotels, resorts, restaurants and venues. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Joe is also accountable for the day to day management, operations and growth of Mugwump Productions, our event decor brand. His goal is to show Jacksonville that the Sight & Sound family of companies is the area's premier provider of event production services and to deliver exceptional experiences for his clients!
Joe has a history of high achievement both in his academics and career. He has a background in business management and marketing consultation, and he launched a St. Augustine antiques and collectibles company in 2003, which he sold in 2006. He started his professional career at Lockheed Martin in 1999 while still in college.
Joe received a BA in 2003 from Southeastern University and looks forward to graduating with his MBA in December. He is also an active member in North Florida Hotel & Lodging Association, Visit Jacksonville, Florida Public Relations Association and Impact Jax.
Recently, Joe was selected as one of the Jacksonville Business Journal's 40 Under 40 2011 - people under 40 years of age who are making a difference in our community, especially in business.
